The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) is set to revolutionize its art programs thanks to a record-breaking $5 million donation from the Windgate Foundation.

Chancellor Anthony Graham announced that this is the largest single investment in the university’s history.

“The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is profoundly grateful to the Windgate Foundation for this pivotal and historic gift,” Graham said.

According to a release, the funds will be used to construct a new Art Tower at the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center, marking the first major renovation in over 30 years.

The Art Tower will be the tallest building on campus, featuring expanded classrooms and studio spaces with abundant natural light.

Patricia Forgy, executive director at Windgate Foundation, said, “We believe that art not only connects us and deepens our understanding of the world, but that access to art is critically important in a student’s life.”

The Windgate Foundation’s total investment in UAPB’s arts programs now approaches $8 million over the past decade, including funds for scholarships and community art initiatives.

Dr. Karen DeJarnette, UAPB Art Department chair, expressed excitement about the expansion, saying, “This expansion will finally give their creativity the room it deserves.
