Reverend George H. Barnes Sr. Announces Run for Justice of the Peace in District 9

Reverend George H. Barnes Sr., a longtime community leader, pastor, and former mayor, has announced his candidacy for Justice of the Peace in District 9 of the Jefferson County Quorum Court.

Born in Jefferson County on October 17, 1949, Barnes has dedicated decades to public service, faith leadership, and community development. After graduating from J.S. Walker High School in 1967, he accepted his call into the gospel ministry and later became the pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, where he continues to serve today.

Barnes is no stranger to public office. He served as alderman for the City of Wabbaseka for eight years before being elected mayor, a position he held for 12 years. During his tenure, he was elected president of the Arkansas Black Mayors Association (ABMA) and served as its leader for four years. He also served on the Wabbaseka School Board and founded the Wabbaseka Council of Human Resources.

Barnes shared why he is running for Justice of the Peace.

He also spoke about what his priorities will be if elected.

Barnes said he believes he has the experience to get the job done.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Barnes currently serves as the Arkansas State President of the National Trusted Partners of Christ, Inc.
