Dallas County Sheriff Mike Knoedl has released his weekly report, urging residents to drive safely as schools reopen and the National Labor Day DWI Mobilization program begins.
Knoedl reminded drivers to stay alert in school zones and at bus stops, emphasizing the importance of putting phones away and watching for children.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign launched today and will continue through September 1. The program, coordinated by law enforcement agencies statewide, includes increased patrols and high-saturation enforcement efforts aimed at reducing impaired driving.
“I want to remind everyone to plan ahead if you know you’ll be out and drinking,” Knoedl said. “Secure a designated sober driver or call someone for a ride home. It doesn’t take much to be too impaired to drive. When a friend has been drinking, please be proactive and help your friend get a sober ride home.”
According to the Arkansas State Police, 511 traffic fatalities occurred nationwide during the 2023 Labor Day holiday, with 36% involving impaired drivers. Knoedl stressed that even one preventable fatality is too many.
