A joint city-wide law enforcement operation between the Desha County Sheriff’s Office and the Dumas Police Department on Friday, August 1, led to the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a violent kidnapping incident.

As part of a coordinated enforcement saturation effort, deputies and officers conducted numerous traffic stops throughout the city, targeting criminal activity and identifying individuals with outstanding warrants. During the operation, both agencies converged on a local residence and successfully served an arrest warrant on Trelane Baker, the second suspect wanted in connection with the July 20 kidnapping, aggravated assault, and battery of a Dumas man.

The first suspect in the case, Torrence Bell, was arrested the day of the incident, July 20.

Law enforcement officials say the joint operation was part of an ongoing effort to reduce crime and ensure community safety through collaborative policing. The Desha County Sheriff’s Office expressed its continued commitment to partnering with local police departments to bring justice to victims and maintain order in the region.

“We are committed to working alongside our city police departments and assisting them in any way we can to reduce crime and make our communities a safer place to live,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “We will continue to pursue those who commit crimes against other people.”

The Dumas Police Department has not released further details on the case, but both suspects are expected to face formal charges in connection with the July 20 attack.
