Man Pleads Guilty to Fordyce Grocery Store Mass Shooting

Travis Eugene Posey, a 45-year-old from New Edinburg, has plead guilty to charges related to the tragic mass shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce last June.

During a pre-trial hearing at the Ouachita County Detention Center courtroom, Posey admitted to four counts of capital murder and 11 counts of attempted capital murder. This plea reversal from his initial not guilty plea on June 25, 2024, marks a significant development in the case.

The incident, which occurred on June 21, 2024 resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 11 others, deeply affecting the Fordyce community. The victims have been identified as Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, Shirley Taylor, 52, and Ellen Shrum, 81.

The motive for the attack remains undisclosed by investigators, but the community continues to feel the profound impact, mourning the lives lost and supporting the injured.

Posey’s sentencing is scheduled for Monday, August 4, and he remains in custody until then.
