A Grant County jury has convicted Marcus Mitchell, 38, of Dallas County, on multiple felony charges stemming from a February 2024 traffic stop, Prosecuting Attorney Teresa Howell announced Friday, June 20, 2025.
Mitchell was found guilty of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), a Class D felony, and Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms, a Class Y felony. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Jeffrey Weber and Bill Solice.
According to trial evidence, Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Stephenson initiated a traffic stop on February 27, 2024, for speeding. Mitchell, who was on felony probation at the time and had a search waiver on file, was found in possession of multiple packages of marijuana, a digital scale, empty plastic bags, and a 9mm pistol located in the vehicle’s console.
Mitchell has prior felony convictions, including Possession of a Controlled Substance with Purpose to Deliver in Faulkner County in 2014 and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons in Dallas County in 2022. He was also previously convicted by a Grant County jury on October 24, 2024, for Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons, a Class B felony, and received a five-year day-for-day sentence.
Following the jury’s recommendation, Circuit Judge Stephen Shirron sentenced Mitchell to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This sentence will be served consecutively to the five-year sentence he is currently serving from his 2024 conviction.
Mitchell was immediately remanded to the custody of the Arkansas Department of Corrections to continue serving his prison terms.
