Two emergency medical technicians (EMTs) from EASI Ambulance Service were honored Wednesday with the Saint Michael Award for their lifesaving efforts that helped save Redfield Mayor Roben Brooks following a massive stroke.
The award, named after Saint Michael the Archangel—the patron saint of police, military, and first responders—recognizes exceptional service and heroic actions in the field of emergency care.
EMT’s Joshua Robertson and Keirsten Caldwell received the award in recognition of the critical measures they took to stabilize and transport Mayor Brooks during her medical emergency. Their quick response played a key role in saving her life.
In an interview with Deltaplex News, Brooks reflected on the day of her stroke and the urgent care she received.
She also highlighted the role of the newly opened Jefferson Regional Specialty Hospital in White Hall, where she received specialized care.
Adding a powerful and personal touch to the ceremony, Brooks became the first living patient to present the Saint Michael Award to the EMTs who saved her life.
Josh Bishop, CEO of EASI Ambulance Service, praised the team’s professionalism and commitment to service.
