UPDATE: Jefferson County Coroner has identified the victim as 69-year-old Sandra Townsend of Pine Bluff.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A tragic early morning house fire claimed the life of a woman in Pine Bluff on Monday. Fire crews were dispatched at 3:04 a.m. to a residential structure fire at 1307 S. Cypress Street, following reports of a fire with possible entrapment.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames coming from the front room of the home. The male resident had already managed to self-evacuate but informed crews that his wife was still inside the residence.
Emergency responders immediately initiated search and rescue operations. Firefighters located the female victim inside and quickly removed her from the burning structure. Sadly, emergency medical personnel from EASI confirmed that the woman had died at the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the victim’s identity has not yet been released.
Officials have not indicated whether smoke detectors were present or operational in the home. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
