Authorities have released new details following the recapture of Grant Hardin, a convicted killer who escaped custody last week. Hardin was apprehended Saturday afternoon, ending an intense manhunt that had spanned several days.
Following his arrest, Hardin was transported to the North Central Unit in Calico Rock for positive identification through fingerprinting, as well as an initial medical evaluation. After completing the verification process, he was immediately transferred to the Varner SuperMax facility in Lincoln County, where he arrived Saturday evening.
Officials confirmed that Hardin is expected to remain housed at the high-security prison.
Law enforcement officials revealed that Hardin did not get far from the prison grounds. He was located within two miles of the facility, in an area near Moccasin Creek. The rugged terrain and recent high water levels—caused by weeks of heavy rainfall—had made the area difficult to access and search thoroughly.
While teams had previously combed the region, flooding had significantly hampered search efforts until conditions recently improved.
