The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that a tornado touched down earlier this week in Chicot County during a round of severe storms, marking the 45th tornado reported in Arkansas so far in 2025.

According to NWS officials, the tornado tracked along Arkansas Highway 160, beginning near an intersection at County Road 252. It continued through Chicot Junction before lifting just east of U.S. Highway 65.

The tornado caused significant damage along its path, snapping multiple utility poles and uprooting or breaking numerous trees. Additionally, two metal farm buildings sustained structural damage—one of which had its concrete anchors pulled from the ground, officials said.

Meteorologists estimate the tornado had maximum wind speeds of 110 miles per hour, categorizing it as an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale. The storm left a damage path stretching 11.6 miles with a maximum width of 700 yards.

This latest event underscores what has already been an active and destructive tornado season in Arkansas, with officials urging residents to stay prepared as severe weather threats persist.
