A Gift of Wisdom: Dr. Ladelle Hyman Donates 67-Volume Great Books Collection to UAPB Library

PINE BLUFF– A remarkable gift has found its way to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff—three boxes containing 67 volumes of some of the most influential works in Western thought. The collection was generously donated by Dr. Ladelle M. Hyman, a distinguished alumna from the Class of 1957.

The donation includes:

Great Books of the Western World – 57 volumes

The Great Ideas Program – 10 volumes

Gateway to the Great Books – 10 volumes

The books were presented by Sharon Fletcher, Dr. Hyman’s cousin and a proud member of the Class of 1976. Fletcher expressed her cousin’s deep belief in the power of books to inspire, educate, and entertain.

Dr. Hyman is a retired accounting professor and former dean at Texas Southern University. Throughout her career, she championed the value of critical thinking and lifelong learning. Her generous donation reflects a personal philosophy rooted in intellectual curiosity and the transformative potential of education.

This extraordinary gift will serve as a lasting resource for years to come for students, faculty, and all who seek to explore the great ideas that have shaped our world.
