On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m., an incident occurred at a Dollar General store in Glen Rose involving an armed robbery. Tyler McWaters, 28, from Traskwood, reportedly entered the store with a rifle, stole merchandise, and left the scene using a tractor as his getaway vehicle.
Responding to the situation, deputies from the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police Troopers tracked McWaters to his residence on Thunderbird Loop. Upon their arrival, McWaters, still armed, attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot towards a nearby property.
During the pursuit, McWaters allegedly fired shots at the officers, prompting the troopers to return fire. McWaters was struck but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was immediately apprehended and received medical attention at the scene before being transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock for further treatment.
The Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division is conducting an investigation into the shooting. Once their investigation is complete, a case file will be submitted to the Hot Spring County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to assess whether the use of lethal force by the officers was justified under Arkansas law.
