According to a global nonprofit social science research firm, Rison High School is listed as one of the best high schools in the country.

The school is included in the U.S. News and World Report listing, according to the Cleveland County Herald newspaper.

RTI International, a North Carolina firm provided information to U.S. News on 17,655 high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia with the list based on factors such as student demographics to academic performance.

Rison High School was ranked the Number 1 High School in the Pine Bluff Metropolitan area which includes Jefferson, Cleveland and Lincoln Counties.

U.S. News reported that Rison High School had 254 students in grades 7-12 and a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1. About 27 percent of the student body were considered minorities and 51percent were considered to be economically disadvantaged.

Rison has a graduation rate above 95 percent, the newspaper reported.
