The Jefferson County Quorum Court met in a chaotic ten minutes Tuesday night for one sole reason – to decide what procedure rules to choose for the quorum court to vote on.

County Judge Gerald Robinson left soon after Human Resources Committee meeting began.

Since the beginning of the year, the quorum court has essentially been non-functioning, having passed zero legislation this year. That’s because procedure rules have not been passed.

The quorum court had two drafts of rules for the committee to vote on Tuesday night. One was created by Robinson, the other by several justices of the peace.

Justice of the Peace Danny Holcomb shot down any discussion from justices of the peace who questioned him, saying repeatedly that they could not speak because they were not on the Human Resources Committee.

A motion was made to pass Robinson’s version of the rules 4-3, although some argued it was 3-3. A roll call vote was requested and granted. Holcomb left immediately after the vote.

The vote next goes to the quorum court on May 22 for a full vote on whether or not to pass this set of procedural rules.
