During a short meeting of the Pine Bluff City Council Monday night, a resolution approving the addition of a survey research assistant for the Street Department and a Public Works Director for the Economic and Community Development Department was approved without dissent.

Council Member Lloyd Holcomb Jr., Chairman of the Council’s Administration Committee, which recommended the resolution be passed, was asked about each position, beginning with the Street Department.

A job description for that position calls for the person hired to be able to measure the length and widths of streets for repairs, keep up to date and accurate zoning mapping, and map Pine Bluff’s Stormwater Drainage System with accurate measurements.

Holcomb then talked about the position of Public Works Director, saying the position was discussed during a meeting in March.

Among other things, the Public Works Director will create bid specifications and recommend vendors for projects, ensure that all work is completed successfully, and monitors and oversees the physical facilities of a local community or area.
