Groundbreakings were held at three different locations in Pine Bluff Thursday morning to highlight construction and growth taking place within the city.

The City of Pine Bluff, Go Forward Pine Bluff, and Pine Bluff Urban Renewal Agency are working together on three separate projects beginning with a family fun park at 2100 East Harding, the location of the former Admiral Benbow Inn. The second project is located at 33rd and Plum where a new housing area will be built. The final project is the Sixth Avenue District located at 6th and Main where local vendors will be able to set up shop in order to help attract more people into the downtown area.

Mayor Shirley Washington spoke with Deltaplex News following the three groundbreakings, saying that today is an exciting day for Pine Bluff.

Washington said another critical piece to the revitalization of downtown Pine Bluff is the completion of the streetscape project. The first half of the project has been completed from the Jefferson County Court House down to the railroad tracks on Main Street. The second half will go from the railroad track to 8th Street, which will lead to the city government offices, the Pine Bluff Convention Center, and the Pine Bluff Carl Redus Jr. Aquatics Center.

Washington said that she expects to begin bidding out the second half of the project in 2023.

Go Forward Pine Bluff CEO Dr. Ryan Watley said that the groundbreakings show that work is being done and promises are being kept.

Dr. Ryan Watley will join Good Morning Deltaplex host Greg Horne on Friday morning at 8:04 a.m. to discuss more about the three projects on Oldies 101.3 F.M.
