Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Wednesday, Pine Bluff Police Chief Lloyd Franklin Sr., said violent crimes tend to increase in hot weather.
Franklin said the department needs more support and a lot more equipment.
He said the department received a $164,000 grant from the State Police Highway Safety fund to purchase the equipment and make the conversion.
Another project is to get the department accredited, he said.
