An Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) employee was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a black SUV on Interstate 30 where he was working.

The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Winfred Petty of Hensley.

According to a police report Petty was putting up a sign, preparing to temporarily shut down the highway for overnight construction when a car driving westbound hit him around 8 p.m. near Scott Hamilton Road.

Petty was taken by medflight to a local hospital, but reportedly died from his injuries during the flight.

The black SUV that hit and killed Petty did not stop at the scene according to the Arkansas State Police.
