A $10,000 cash-only bond was set Tuesday for a Rison man arrested Sunday while driving a truck that had been reported stolen.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond for Chadwick Rankin, 48, after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Rankin with theft by receiving.

Deputy Prosecutor Caleb Conrad asked for the cash-only bond because the policy of the prosecutor’s office is to seek cash-only bonds for people who have charges pending and Conrad said Rankin has an open case charging him with two counts of breaking or entering and theft of property filed earlier this year.

Reading from a probable cause affidavit from White Hall Officer Clayton Cantrell, Conrad said Maj. Mickey Buffkin was on Claud Road when he saw a gold pickup that had been reported stolen in Pine Bluff two days earlier. After confirming the license plate number with the Arkansas Crime Information Center, Buffkin conducted a traffic stop.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Rankin.
