Just over $209,000 has been received by Star City from the American Rescue Fund, according to a report in the Lincoln Ledger newspaper.

Star City Mayor Paul Carter told the City Council during their meeting Aug. 9 that the funds, which is half of what the city expects to receive, can be used for city projects, including on-going repairs to the sewer main on Ford Street.

Carter also updated the council on the progress being made by the fiber optic teams installing conduit for future internet access. He said contractors are more than halfway through with the project which is expected to be completed by Sept. 30.

The newspaper reported that Council member David McCoy expressed concern that the old City Hall building at Wiley and Jefferson Streets is beyond repair and has become an eyesore. He asked if there were any grants or federal funds available that could help build a new food pantry, which is currently housed in the old City Hall building.
