Former Pine Bluff Police Chief and current city council member Ivan Whitfield on Tuesday blamed Mayor Shirley Washington and other members of the council for the lack of a school resource officer at Watson Chapel Junior High School where a 15-year-old male student was shot by another 15-year old student Monday.

Speaking to Deltaplex News, Whitfield said;

Whitfield was also asked about the fact that when school resource officers were used, the districts paid their salaries.

Later Tuesday morning, Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant explained the department’s manpower situation.

Sergeant went on to say that removing school resource officers was not the only change that was made.
