The White Hall School Board voted to expel three students at Tuesday night’s school board meeting after they committed Tier Two infractions on school property.

Expulsions were handed down for a student that had a gun in a bag on a school bus, a student that stabbed another student in the eye, and a third student who’s reason for expulsion was not shared.

Superintended Doug Dorris was very vocal during the meeting saying the district has expelled more students this school year than in any previous years that he can remember.

Dorris said that the Tier Two infractions are all listed in the school handbook so students and parents can read and understand what they are. He said that he is proud that the majority of students are not taking part in the infractions, but the district is working to “hammer that home” in regards to making sure students and parents understand the consequences if infractions are made.

Dorris said he also wants to make sure citizens are aware of the process involving the police and prosecution once infractions are made by students.

Dorris said that the district is trying to keep parents more informed on rules and law that students must follow, but there needs to be more parental and community involvement in order to help the students.

Dorris also addressed the public access to tornado safe rooms in the schools with the threat of severe weather during the spring time months.

In other news the board voted to change homecoming procedures for homecoming maids. The new procedures will allow one maid to be escorted by each senior football player on the team. The board also voted to purchase a new district vehicle from Smart Chevrolet for approximately $50,000. That vehicle is the vehicle the state allows a district to provide a superintendent.
