UAPB Volleyball: Lady Lions Sweep Mississippi Valley State in SWAC Cluster; Grabs First Conference Win

PINE BLUFF, AR – The University of Arkansas of Pine Bluff’s volleyball team cruised to a three-set win (25-8, 25-17, 26-24) over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes Monday at home at H.O. Clemmons Arena to close out the SWAC Cluster.

The victory boosted the Lady Lions to their first win in SWAC action.

Ariyonna Edmond finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Lady Lions offense. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Zykia Jones had 16 and Camille Johnson had 12.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Lions took control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-8. UAPB opened up its biggest lead, 17 points, to finish off the set. UAPB also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, UAPB put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-17 victory in set number two. The Lady Lions never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased four lead changes before UAPB took over the lead.

SET 3 | UAPB closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning the third set. The Lady Lions came out on top of a tight battle, winning 26-24 in a set that was tied five times and had two lead changes.
