UAPB Volleyball Completes Season Sweep Over Alcorn State 3-1 Sunday at Home

PINE BLUFF, AR – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team fired back after dropping the first set to secure a 3-1 win (27-29, 25-15, 25-20, 26-24) against the Alcorn State Lady Braves Sunday at home at H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Zykia Jones, who registered 14 kills and 12 digs on the day. Camille Johnson also added 12 kills to help the attack. Lyla Jones also pitched in with five in the contest. On the defensive end, MacKenzie McDowell chipped in for with 17 digs to go with six blocks from Ashanti Butler.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Lions couldn’t hang on in a back-and-forth first set, losing 29-27 in a game that featured 11 lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.

SET 2 | UAPB responded to pick up a 25-15 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Lady Lions grabbed control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and never looked back. UAPB opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 10 points, to finish off the set, totaling 16 kills .

SET 3 | UAPB grabbed another win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Lady Lions the set set three 25-20. UAPB took the lead for good at 21-20 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Lady Lions took over in the second half of the stanza. The UAPB offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | UAPB finished off the match with a 26-24 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set. The Lady Lions seized the set win in spite of trailing by eight points at 16-8 before fighting back to claim victory. UAPB jumped in front at 25-24 and hung on the rest of the way.
