UAPB Volleyball 2-1 in SWAC Cluster

HUNTSVILLE, AL — Laila Fortson totaled eight kills with an .8 hitting percentage to help carry the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team to a 3-0 win (25-7, 25-13, 25-11) over the Mississippi Valley State Sunday in the first SWAC Cluster of the season.

Fortson finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Lady Lions attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .80. The Lady Lions had 12 digs from Starvoula Papazoglou to lead them defensively.

UAPB won the first set of the second match against Florida A&M 25-22, but ultimately fell to the Rattlers 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16). Fernanda Spengler led the Lady Lions with 15 kills, followed by 12 kills from Zykia Jones. Kaila Robinson led defensively with 11 digs.

Spengler racked up 15 kills with a .542 hitting percentage to help carry the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team to a five-set win (20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 15-4) over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Monday in their final game of the SWAC Cluster.

The victory moved the Lady Lions’ record to 4-3 in SWAC play.

The Lady Lions return to action Monday, October 17th, when they will host the University of Louisiana at Monroe at the H.O. Clemmons Arena. Match start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
