UAPB Track And Field: Fyffe Wins Field Event; Golden Lions Dominate Day at Little Rock Invitational

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas –  The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff track and field team dominated the day at the Little Rock Invitational going into the weekend.

In the field events, Deandre Fyffe won the men’s discus with a throw of 47.36  meters, his second first place in an event this season. Fyffe dominated other events as well, finishing fourth in the shotput and seventh in the hammer throw. Danniel Bailey finished second in the hammer throw and fifth in the discus throw, both for top-five finishes.

On the women’s side, Lyric Love finished the hammer throw in second place with a throw of 45.84 and finished seventh in the shotput event. Jaylynn Hampton came in third place in the women’s javelin throw, going the distance of 26.73 meters.

Blazing the track for the Golden Lions was Mohamed Soumare and Tarik Xavier, who both finished second place in their individual events; Soumare in the 400 meter run with a time of 48.85, and Xavier in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:01.12.

Stephen Lane placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and Zachariah McGowan place fifth in the 400 meter hurdles. Genesis Joseph and Ryan Longmire placed fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the 400 meter run.

The Lady Lions were paced in the lanes by Kris-Ann Plummer, who finished second in the 400 meter run with a time 56.76. Cheriece Cope followed up with a third place finish in the 400 meter run.

UAPB will travel to the University of Oklahoma for the Sooner Invitational held on April 14-15 in Norman, Oklahoma.
