UAPB Softball: Lady Lions Split Doubleheader to Clinch Weekend Series Against Grambling St.

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —The UAPB Lady Lions got off to a slow start on Saturday, falling to the Grambling Tigers 7-1 despite the efforts Layla Stouder, who went 2-for-3 with a double at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UAPB got an RBI single from Samaria Jackson, scoring Jazlyn Gomez from second base. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as Grambling St.  added four runs to their tally on the way to a 7-1 final.

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —True freshman Kayla Adams was dealing on Saturday, hurling a three-hit shutout to lead the UAPB Lady Lions past the Grambling Tigers 3-0.  Adams (10-4) went the distance for UAPB giving up three hits, walking none and striking out 10, becoming the first freshman in school history to hit the 10 win club halfway through the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Lauryn Adams drove in two runs for UAPB with a single, that scored Amari Broughton and Jada Crusterson.

The Lady Lions also added a run in the sixth inning when Samaria Jackson came up big with one out and blasted a triple deep left center, but would add to the lead when Kaitlyn Neely hit a ball deep left for the SAC fly to score Jackson to complete their scoring in the ballgame to clinched the three-game series.
