UAPB Softball Drops Season Opener To Saint Louis
GAME 1 | Saint Louis 5, UAPB 3
PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —Junior Amari Broughton racked up three hits, but the UAPB Lady Lions fell to the Saint Louis Billikens 5-3 Friday at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
Freshman Kayla Adams got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on eight hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
In addition to her three hits, Broughton had a double, a home run and an RBI to lead the Lady Lions. Freshman Jada Carhee compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Broughton put UAPB on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Taylor Hochman.
The Billikens then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Lady Lions got back on the board in the fifth. UAPB pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Carhee that scored Broughton and freshman Jada Crusterson, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Billikens. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as Saint Louis added one run to their tally on the way to a 5-3 final.

UAPB Lady Lions were not able to record a run against Saint Louis pitcher freshman Lily Strand on Friday and were shut out 10-0 by the Billikens.
Sophomore Danika Bryant got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss.
Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by freshman Shalin Charles, who went 2-for-2 on the day.
