UAPB Soccer Handles Mississippi Valley St. In Home Win On Senior Day

PINE BLUFF, — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions got a hat trick from Iyanah Hicks in a 10-1 victory over Mississippi Val. Sunday (October 16) at home at Pumphrey Stadium. UAPB improved to 9-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 in SWAC play with the win. 

It was the first time the Lady Lions scored 10 goals in a match since last year’s 10-0 victory over Central Baptist College. 

19 different players came out on the pitch for UAPB, and eight different players scored a goal. Taylor Schumacher got the nod in the first half, followed by Riedel Makaila, who contributed to the win. 

It took less than six minutes for UAPB to score its first game goal as Pine Bluff native Azana Holman fired a shot up the middle, assisted by Natalie Freeman, to take a 1-0 lead. Kaitlyn Hapke added to the lead to give UAPB a 2-0 lead before going into the intermission up 3-0. 

In the second half, the scoring barrage did not stop as the Lady Lions would go on to tack on seven more goals to cruise to victory over the Devilettes. 

UAPB outshot Mississippi Valley St. 41-4 in the conference matchup. 

The Lady Lions get a week’s rest in preparation as UAPB is back in action on Friday, October 28 at 4 p.m., against Grambling St. at Pumphrey Soccer Complex.
