UAPB Men’s Golf Captures 2023 Bridgestone HBCU Invitational

Duluth, GA. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff spring 2023 HBCU National Champion celebrated a remarkable victory, capturing the inaugural Bridgestone HBCU Invitational over the weekend. In a field of six talented HBCUs D-1 programs (Florida A&M, Alabama St., North Carolina Central, Tennessee St., Chicago St., and Prairie View A&M), The Golden Lions finished (+17) over par across the 36-holes event due to bad weather at the TPC Sugarloaf.

As a unit, the Golden Lions shot (296) on day one and (297) on day two for an overall score of (593).

The Golden Lions got off to a hot start, with three golfers finishing in the top-10, led by SWAC 2023 Freshman of the Year Ismael Garcia who finished second overall with a score of -2 (142), followed by 2023 All-SWAC Second Team Angel Perez, who placed fifth, shooting +3 (148), and newcomer Jose Berenguel who placed ninth to round out the top-10 with a scorecard of +2 (150).

Talented newcomers Timur Alain and Jules De Reu both delivered a solid performance, with Alain finishing 16th at +9 (150) and Berenguel placed 36th at +20 (164).

After the impressive showing at the Bridgestone HBCU Invitational, UAPB is set to continue their journey at the SWAC Fall Invitational Birmingham.
