UAPB Men Hoops: Golden Lions Cruise To Second-Straight Victory With 112-68 Win Over Southwestern Christian University

PINE BLUFF, AR —The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team shot 51.6 percent from deep on the way to a 112-68 victory against the at home Saturday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Golden Lions had six players score in double figures, led by Kylen Milton, who had 26 points, six rebounds and two steals. Rashad Williams tacked on 25 points and four assists and Kaine McColley chipped in as well with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. This is the third straight game that Milton scored 22 points or more.

UAPB out-rebounded 44-26 in Saturday’s game, paced by Ismeal Plet’s seven boards.

The Golden Lions defense was a problem in Saturday’s game, forcing 18 turnovers while committing 14. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the other end of the floor. Plet’s three steals led the way individually for the Golden Lions.

How It Happened

After falling behind 5-4, UAPB went on a 10-0 run with 18:45 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Milton, to take a 14-5 lead. The Golden Lions then added 13 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 56-34 advantage. UAPB capitalized on 12 turnovers in the period, turning them into 14 points on the other end of the floor.

Following intermission, UAPB kept widening that lead, expanding it to 63-38 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Williams’ three, to grow the lead to 71-38 with 17:16 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 112-68 win. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 56 points.

» This is the first time in the history of the program that UAPB scored over a 100 points in two consecutive games.

The Golden Lions will be back in action, Monday, Nov. 12, as they travel up the road to Conway, AR., to take on Central Arkansas in an in-state battle.  Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
