UAPB Men Hoops Drop Heartbreaker to Alabama State at Home 74-71

PINE BLUFF, AR – The UAPB men’s basketball team got a 46-point showing from the bench, but fell 74-71 to the Alabama State Hornets at home Saturday.

The Golden Lions (10-15, 6-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Kylen Milton, who had 17 points and five assists. Chris Greene added 14 points and seven rebounds off of the bench and Caleb Stokes helped out with 12 points off of the bench.

Ismael Plet pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the UAPB offense which grabbed 14 boards and turned them into 13 second chance points.

The UAPB defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday’s game, forcing 13 Alabama State turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Plet led the way individually for the Golden Lions with one steal.

How It Happened

After falling behind 9-8, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 13:28 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Stokes, to take a 14-9 lead. The Golden Lions then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 35-32.

Alabama State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 49-41 advantage before UAPB went on a 10-0 run, finished off by Trejon Ware’s layup, to seize a 51-49 lead with 10:39 to go in the contest. Alabama State re-asserted control, outscoring the Golden Lions 25-20 the rest of the way to hand UAPB the 74-71 loss. UAPB capitalized on nine Alabama State turnovers in the period, collecting 11 points off those turnovers.
