UAPB Golf: SWAC Champions Headed To Norman For NCAA Regional

PINE BLUFF, AR. – In front of a packed house Wednesday afternoon at the STEM Building on the campus at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, the Golden Lions men’s golf team qualified automatically (SWAC Champions) as the 14th- seed at this year’s Norman Regional of the 2023 NCAA Championship.

The Golden Lions, coming off their first conference championship in the program’s history, will head to Norman, Oklahoma, to battle it out with 13 other teams for a secured ticket in this year’s 2023 NCAA Championships.

The Golden Lions made history and became the first team in the SWAC Conference to win the conference championship by 29 strokes and will be the only HBCU team participating in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

The Golden Lions finished the season strongly, winning four of the last six tournaments.

Eighty-one teams and 45 individuals were placed in one of six regional sites Wednesday afternoon. Regional play consists of 54 holes of golf over three days. The Regionals in Las Vegas, Salem, S.C., and Norman, Okla. will consist of 14 teams and five individuals, while Regionals in Auburn, Ala., Bath, Mich., and Morgan Hill, Calif. will feature 13 teams and ten individuals.

The low five teams and the low individual not representing one of the top five qualifying teams from each regional will advance to the finals. May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
