UAPB Baseball: Stay Hot At The Plate; Dominate Alcorn State 16-4 to Clinch Series

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas — University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Golden Lions put 16 runs on the board and knock off the Alcorn State Braves 16-4 Saturday.

Jaedon Willis got the win for UAPB. The lefty went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits, allowing four walks and striking out four. Chris Bedgood also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

Offensively, the Golden Lions were led by freshman Darrius Brown, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double, a walk and three RBI. Carlos Rodriguez put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBI. Jaylon Nauden also contributed for UAPB, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. UAPB’s offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Jalyn Williams and a two-run double from Rodriguez.

The Braves failed to push any runs across before the Golden Lions built on their lead in the third inning. The UAPB offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Brown, which brought the score to 14-0 in favor of the Golden Lions.

UAPB kept Alcorn State without a run before building their lead to 16-0 the following inning. Nauden’s run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Golden Lions. Alcorn State put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UAPB still coasted to the 16-4 win.
