Despite an increase in reported structure fires in September, the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department reported responding to 42 fewer calls than they did in August.

The monthly report released Monday showed firefighters answered 463 calls last month compared to 505 in August, an 11.87 percent reduction.

A big reason for the decrease was that there were 32 fewer emergency medical calls in September than there were in August.

Emergency medical calls typically make up more than half of the department’s calls on a monthly basis.

The monthly report showed that there were five more vehicle accidents with injuries in September than there were in August with 29 being reported last month compared to 24 in August.

Structure fires increased from seven in August to 15 in September while brush, grass and rubbish fires jumped by 2, from 14 to 16.
