The Pine Bluff Community Center hosts its grand opening

The Pine Bluff Community Center, formally known as the Merill Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that opened its doors to the public on Sunday, March 28th. Mayor Shirley Washington led the event and describe the many individuals that took part in renovating the center including donations from State Farm, Pine Bluff residents, Apple Corporations, Cricket Wireless, and more.

Pine Bluff locals such as Calvin Hence, Jordan Sims, and Alderman Lloyd Holcomb Jr. reflected on the renovation and the overall impact the center will bring to the community.

Hence said,

Sims also gave inspiring words at the grand open,

Alderman Holcomb Jr. added his remarks with being a part of this development’s journey,

The director of Pine Bluff Parks and Recreations Samuel Glover expressed how beneficial the community center will be for the youth,

Glover also elaborated on the involvement of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with the programs that the center plans to offer,

In closing, Mayor Washington addressed some of the heartaches the community has been through and what developments like the community center will do for not only the youth but also parents.
