The Star City School Board on Monday approved one-time bonuses for certified and non-certified staff.

According to the Lincoln Ledger newspaper, the $800 bonuses will be given in November. The board also approved minimum wage increases for substitute teachers.

The newspaper quoted Superintendent Jordan Frizell as saying the district enrollment was 1,376, one more student than last month, and down 78 students from last year. Frizell said most of those students opted to be home schooled.

He said that districts that lost students are concerned because districts receive $7,000 per student.

Frizell also reported that 67.5 percent of students in the district turned in forms for free and reduced price lunches and said the district will be providing free lunches to all students until the end of this school year.
