Mayors in several Southeast Arkansas cities are facing opposition this fall, according to the McGehee-Dermott Times News.
The newspaper reported that McGehee Mayor Jeff Owyoung will be opposed by ollie Reddick Jr., while in Dumas, incumbent Mayor Flora Simon has two challengers, Price “Bubba” Boney and Arthur Hunt Jr.,
In Lake Village, Eddy Bush and Antonio Lovelady are seeing the mayor’s office while in Reed, George Barnes and Lawrence Barnes Jr., are running for mayor.
The newspaper reported that Arkansas City Mayor Rick Hales did not seek another term and voters in that city will decide between Carolyne Blissett and Darlene King.
Dermott incumbent Mayor Walter Donald also did not run for reelection and voters will decide between former Mayor Clinton Hampton, Evelyn Wimbley, Anthony Scott and Walter Jordan Jr.
In Star City, the Lincoln Ledger newspaper reported that incumbent Mayor Paul Carter has announced his intention to seek another term.
According to the newspaper, Carter said in his announcement that during his time as Mayor, he has brought millions of dollars in grants to the city, has completed a $2.4 million rehab of the city’s wastewater treatment plant and brought high speed fiber internet to the city. He went on to say that over $1 million in additional infrastructure projects are in the works.
