The Sheridan School Board voted to accept the resignation of Larry McBroom as head football coach at a special called meeting Thursday evening.

All board members, with the exception of Jody Spann, were in attendance for the meeting. Board member Jeff Lisenby made the motion to accept the resignation, which was seconded by Jacob Palmer. Each member present then voted to accept McBroom’s resignation.

The Sheridan School District listed the position of head football coach on January 24 after deciding to change the position from a part-time position to a full-time position.

McBroom told Deltaplex News that he would not apply for the full-time position because he was asked to resign.

McBroom went 5-15 as head football coach of the Sheridan Yellowjackets. He is in the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame after winning eight state championships, two runner-up trophies, having six final four appearances, and coaching teams into the playoffs 37 years. He was selected Oklahoma Football Coach of the Year two times, Fort Worth Star-Telegram Texas Football Coach of the Year, and Region 7 National Coach of the Year, according to a press release issued by the OCA.

A coaching search is currently ongoing to find McBroom’s replacement.
