Pine Bluff woman and man arrested in connection to child abuse

Reported injuries to a child Saturday resulted in the arrest of the child’s mother and her boyfriend.

Dwight Shelton, 23, and Savanah Owens, 23, were taken into custody after police were sent to Jefferson Regional Hospital at 8:35 p.m. in reference to a report of child abuse.

Alexander said Owens had been working and arrived at the hospital in a separate vehicle.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 bond for Shelton after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with first-degree domestic battery. A $5,000 bond was set for Owens on probable cause of permitting the abuse of a minor.

Shelton and Owens were ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to court on July 25.
