During the Pine Bluff School District’s recent informational session held on Tuesday, August 3 at the convention center, Superintendent Barbara Warren spoke about new resources that will be available for the 2021-2022 school year. One of those resources is School Improvement Specialists and Social Workers on-site at each campus location.
Warren discussed an explore academy for students in 7th and 8th grade who may need extra academic help.
Student, Parent, and Community Advisory groups that engage and communicate directly with their stakeholders will serve as additional resources. In school news, mentors and volunteers are needed for programs such as Each One, Reach One, an after-school basketball program, parent advocates, and adopt-a-school. These mentors and volunteers will have training and go through a background check. Warren also talked about implementing a community advisory committee.
Kimberly West, the former principal at Southwood Elementary and current Family and Community Engagement Coordinator for the district, presented a communication plan for her stakeholders. The plan includes clear, consistent, and timely communication through multi-media and marketing campaigns, community updates through social media platforms, monthly spotlight features, and more informational sessions.
Warren talked about building a new high school in the future in order to combine Pine Bluff and Dollarway High Schools.
The school district’s first day of classes is Wednesday, August 18. The Jefferson County Library will host a meet and greet with Principal Michael Anthony and new staff at 4:30pm on Thursday, August 5.
