After serving as interim Police Chief since July 2021, Lloyd Franklin Sr., has been given the job on a permanent basis.

Mayor Shirley Washington made the announcement as a part of her State of the City address before the regular meeting of the City Council Monday night.

Tuesday, Franklin was a guest on the Oldies 101.3 morning show and was asked if he was going to do anything different now that he has the job permanently.

Franklin went on to say that its not about the pay for those officers but instead those officers want to make the town safe because they live here, and their kids go to school here.

“That’s the only reason I took the job”, he said. “I have a vested interest in Pine Bluff.”

Franklin said he has talked to Washington about getting better resources for officers and mentioned one item in particular.

Franklin said while some female officers do have the proper vests, others do not and he wants to make sure all the female officers have the proper equipment to do the job.

He was also asked how long he would like to stay in the position of chief.
