With no dissent, the Pine Bluff City Council on Monday adopted a resolution authorizing Mayor Shirley Washington to sign a lease purchase agreement for 60 golf carts for the Harbor Oaks Golf Course.

The new golf carts will come from Clear Creek Golf Car and Utility Vehicles, which, according to information provided by the company, provides golf carts for about 40 golf clubs in the state, including the Pine Bluff Country Club.

After the meeting, Council Member Glen Brown Jr., talked about the need for the carts.

The council voted 7-0 to approve the resolution and an accompanying ordinance waiving competitive bidding and approving a financing agreement for five years at an annual rate of$85,680 for a total amount of $428,400 over the life of the contract.

Council member Bruce Lockett, whose father died a few weeks ago left the meeting to take an emergency phone call and Mayor Washington told the council that Lockett’s mother is very sick and asked the council to keep Lockett and his family in their prayers.

Three agenda items supported by the city clerk including one adopting guidelines for submitting and processing invoices were read for a second time and placed on the calendar for a final reading at the first meeting in May.
