On Monday, schools in the Pine Bluff area shut down so that students could devote their attention to the solar eclipse.

Southeast Arkansas College made the decision to shut down as well and the school’s interim President, Dr. Stacy Pfluger explained why when she appeared on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show Tuesday.

With many non-traditional students, some of whom can’t attend classes on a traditional schedule, Morning Show host Greg Horne asked Pfluger how SEARK has structured their schedules to help those students.

The conversation then turned to classes being offered for students who are not looking for a four-year degree but to learn trades and have opportunities to go out and get jobs and make money.

The Board of Directors of SEARK was meeting Tuesday in closed session to review applications for the president’s position which became vacant when former president Dr. Steven Bloomberg resigned to accept a position in California. The Board has said they hope to have a new president in place by first of July.
