Now that the State Education Department has returned the Pine Bluff School District to local control, the next step is to elect a school board and on Wednesday, District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Barbaree explained the process when she appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show.

Barbaree said the elected board members will serve five-year terms.

Morning show host Greg Horne then asked if there were any provisions to prevent people who were serving as board members when the state took over the district from being on the new board.

Horne said Barbaree is in a unique position because technically, her boss is the board but she is making the decisions on the day to day operations of the district.

She also said she believes she has the support of all seven current members of the board
