The Mcgehee Dermott Times News highlighted a groundbreaking ceremony that took place Tuesday for I-69. Stakeholders gathered in McGehee including the Arkansas Highway Commission Chair Robert Moore Jr., McGehee Mayor Jeff Owyoung, and other highway department officials participated in the ceremony.

The newspaper mentioned that the interstate 69 project has been designated by the United States Department of Transportation as a “Corridor of the Future”. Officials say the highway will be “invaluable” to future freight movement from the deep south to Canada. Once finished, I-69 will cover over 2,600 miles from Laredo, Texas to Port Huron, Michigan near the Canadian border.

One of the officials mentioned at the groundbreaking Robert Moore Jr., who is an Arkansas City native, played a key role in not only the push for progress on I-69 but for highway projects and improvements across the state. The newspaper mentioned that Moore is also devoted to promoting tourism in the delta and promoting tourism in the delta and was inducted into the Arkansas Tourism Hall of Fame in 2019.
