Many could see their summer plans “grounded”

As the summer months approach, many are looking to fly off to seek fun in the sun, or check out the sights in one of America’s big cities. But engine recalls and delayed deliveries of new planes could cut down on the amount of flights that will take off.

Budget carrier Spirit Airlines has announced plans to furlough 260 workers and will delay all new aircraft deliveries until 2025 in an effort to save money. United Airlines is also looking to cut costs by asking pilots to take voluntary unpaid time off in May due to late deliveries of new aircraft from Boeing.

Other airlines who use Boeing planes may also see similar delays, which could cause may flights to be cancelled.
