Sunday marked two years since the mass shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce that claimed four lives and injured 11 others, including two law enforcement officers.
The shooting occurred on June 21, 2024, when authorities said gunfire erupted in the grocery store parking lot before continuing inside the business.
Investigators said several victims were shot outside before additional people were wounded in the store.
Responding officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who was also injured.
The attack left four people dead and became one of the deadliest mass shootings in Arkansas in recent years, sending shockwaves through the Fordyce community and prompting a large law enforcement response.
Travis Eugene Posey later pleaded guilty to four counts of capital murder and multiple counts of attempted capital murder in connection with the shooting.
As part of a plea agreement that removed the possibility of the death penalty, Posey was sentenced to four life sentences plus 220 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
Despite the conviction, a motive for the shooting has never been publicly disclosed. Authorities have previously said there was no indication Posey had a personal connection to the victims.
The victims included shoppers and employees who were at the grocery store during the attack, while many of those injured have continued to recover from the physical and emotional effects of the shooting.
