A man was shot Sunday morning after allegedly breaking into a vehicle and stealing a firearm, according to the Pine Bluff Police Department.
Officers were dispatched around 11 a.m. Dec. 7 to the 2000 block of West 24th Avenue after a report of a male who had been shot. When officers arrived, a resident told them she saw an unknown man inside her vehicle through her home security camera. She said that when she went outside to confront him, she found her .380-caliber pistol missing from the driver’s side door.
The resident told police she demanded the return of her gun. During the confrontation, two shots were fired, striking the man in the left side of his neck and shoulder. Police said the man fell into a nearby ditch and admitted to breaking into the vehicle and stealing the firearm before running eastbound.
The stolen gun was not recovered.
A short time later, officers responded to the 1600 block of West 23rd Avenue, where a man reported he had been shot. Officers found 23-year-old Dekoda Hill, who matched the description of the earlier suspect. Hill was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment and was unable to provide a statement because of medical intervention.
Police said Hill also has an active felony theft warrant.
