The Pine Bluff School District Board scheduled a meeting on Monday night with the intention of doing something bold. Multiple sources told Deltaplex News leading up to the meeting that they were prepared to wipe away the cloud hanging over the head of popular Zebra football coach Michael Williams. But with the possibility of legal action still on the table, in football terms, they punted. After going into Executive Session, they came out and announced the only action that they were taking was on the contract of interim Superintendent Phillip Carlock. But the saga of what happens to the guy that the players, parents and community wants, will drag on again, maybe to the start of the school year. Michael Williams teaching license is set to run out in December, and he has not applied to have it renewed according to sources close to Deltaplex News. Sources also tell us that there is a definite split when it comes to the board, with some feeling it is long time to remove the paid administrative leave collar and let Williams do what he does best, and that is mentor kids. So what will happen when the next scheduled board meeting takes place? Ivan Whiftfield and others will once again take to the podium, asking the board to do what they feel is right. The spector in Little Rock is real, and the board knows that just a couple of years out from state control, they have to let the system play out.
